Mortada Abdel Rahim Attia Alioui was arrested on June 8, 2015 by the members of the Asayish forces near the Great Mosque of Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. Since then, his fate and whereabouts have remained unknown.

On June 8, 2015, Alioui was walking near the Great Mosque of Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, when he was arrested by members of the Asayish forces. The Asayish is considered to be the Kurdish security agency and the primary intelligence agency operating in the Kurdistan region in Iraq.

Following his arrest, he was then taken to an unknown location. His current whereabouts remain unknown.

On June 20, 2015, Alioui’s family reported his disappearance to the Sarai police in Sulaymaniyah, but to no avail.

Three years later, Asiacell Telecom informed the Alioui family upon their request that his phone had been switched off shortly after his arrest.

He was seen by a former prisoner in mid-2019 in a detention centre in Sulaymaniyah operated by the Kurdish intelligence forces.

On November 29, 2022, MENA Rights Group and the Iraqi War Crimes Documentation Center requested the urgent intervention of the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances.
