Disappearance of Mohammad Al Ahmad Al Kamesh since arrest by Syrian Military Security in 2014

Al Ahmad Al Kamesh has been missing since January 24, 2014, when he was arrested by the Military Security at a checkpoint located near the Hama fire station.

On January 24, 2014 at around 12 p.m., Al Ahmad Al Kamesh was driving his car from the Hama fire station where he was working, when he was arrested by members of the Military Security at a checkpoint located near the fire station and brought to an unknown place of detention.

One week after the arrest, members of the Military Security went to the Hama fire station to enquire about Al Ahmad Al Kamesh’s identity with the fire station’s director. Furthermore, his family was unofficially informed by a former detainee that he was being detained at the Military Security detention centre in Hama.

In March 2014, the family was unofficially informed by former detainees that Al Ahmad Al Kamesh had been transferred to the Military Security detention centre in Damascus.

In January 2015, his family enquired about his fate and whereabouts at Qaboun Military Police headquarters, and the officers told them that he had died in detention due to medical issues. The relatives received a death certificate issued on May 24, 2014 at the Teshren Governmental Hospital.

On March 22, 2016, Al Ahmad Al Kamesh was listed as detainee no. 92 in a list of detainees held in detention centres under the state’s control posted on social media, and was reported as being detained in Sednaya Military Prison and sentenced by the Military Field Courts in Damascus.

In December 2018, the family was unofficially informed by a former detainee that Al Ahmad Al Kamesh was seen in April 2018 in Sednaya Military Prison.
