November 23, 2023: MENA Rights Group submits a Request for opinion to the UN Working group on arbitrary detention for Nasser Zefzafi.
January 19, 2023: The European Parliament adopts a resolution calling for the release of Nasser Zefzafi.
June 23, 2021: The Court of Cassation confirms the sentence of Zefzafi.
April 6, 2019: The Casablanca Court of Appeal confirms Zefzafi’s 20-year prison sentence.
December 17, 2018: Start of appeal hearing.
June 28, 2018: The Casablanca Court of Appeal condemns Zefzafi to 20 years imprisonment.
September 9, 2017: Start of the collective trial of the 54 defendants of the Hirak El-Rif before the Criminal Division of the Casablanca Court of Appeal.
June 5, 2017: Zefzafi appears before the King’s Prosecutor at the Casablanca Court of Appeal, who charges him with two felonies and seven misdemeanours, including undermining the internal security of the State, contempt of officers, and participating in an armed rebellion.
May 29, 2017: Zefzafi is violently arrested by a dozen police officers from the National Judicial Police Brigade (Brigade nationale de la police judiciaire) in Al Hoceima. He is then taken by helicopter, hooded and handcuffed, to the headquarters of the General Directorate of National Security (Direction générale de la sûreté nationale) in Casablanca.
May 26, 2017: Zefzafi interrupts the Friday sermon at the Mohammed V mosque in Al Hoceima.
End of October 2016: Birth of the peaceful Hirak El-Rif movement, led by Zefzafi.
