December 7, 2023: Al-Shamsi’s trial in abstentia before the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal starts, as part of a new mass trial.
January 25, 2022: Mandate holders of the UN Special Procedures submitted a communication on al-Shamsi to the UAE authorities.
September 15, 2021: MENA Rights Group submits an urgent appeal to two UN Special Rapporteurs concerning al-Shamsi.
September 12, 2021: Al-Shamsi is included in the UAE’s national terrorism list.
July 2, 2013: Al-Shamsi is sentenced in absentia to 15 years of prison.
March 4, 2013: The “UAE 94” trial before the State Security Chamber within the Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi begins.
