March 24, 2026: The Administrative Court in Sofia upholds the decision by the State Agency for Refugees to deny al-Khalidi’s asylum claim, rejecting his appeal.
February 17, 2026: The Administrative Supreme Court overturns the decision of the Administrative Court in Sofia and dismisses al-Khalidi’s appeal against his continued detention, following the appeal from the Directorate of Migration.
November 7, 2025: The Directorate of Migration appeals against the decision to release al-Khalidi by the Administrative Court in Sofia.
November 6, 2025: The Administrative Court in Sofia overturns the Directorate of Migration’s extension of al-Khalidi’s detention and issues a decision to release him immediately, as his continued detention is not legally justified.
October 3, 2025: An appeal is lodged against the Directorate of Migration’s extension of al-Khalidi’s detention.
September 26, 2025: The Directorate of Migration issues a decision to extend al-Khalidi’s detention by 6 months, or until the obstacles to his deportation are removed.

June 23, 2025: The First Chamber of the Administrative Supreme Court overturns the Administrative Court in Sofia’s decision to dismiss al-Khalidi’s appeal against the State Agency for Refugees’ denial of his asylum claim.
March 28, 2025: The State Agency for National Security issues an orderto keep him in detention.
March 26, 2025: The Administrative Court in Sofia orders al-Khalidi’s immediate release, but never put it in force.
March 25, 2025: The Administrative Court in Sofia dismisses al-Khalidi’s appeal against the rejection of his asylum claim by the State Agency for Refugees.
October 21, 2024: The Administrative Court in Sofia upholds the order to deport al-Khalidi after rejecting the appeal against the decision.
June 28, 2024: The State Agency for Refugees issues a new decision to deny al-Khalidi's asylum claim.
April 25, 2024: The Administrative Supreme Court overturns the decision not to grant him asylum and sends his case back to the State Agency for Refugees for reconsideration.

February 7, 2024: Al-Khalidi is visited by an investigator from the State Agency for National Security and handed an untranslated decision for his immediate deportation.
February 5, 2024: The State Agency for National Security issues an order to deport al-Khalidi to Saudi Arabia, claiming he poses a threat to national security.
January 26, 2024: The Administrative Court in Sofia refuses his release order.
January 22, 2024: An administrative decision is issued by the State Agency for National Security, in which his release is denied.
January 18, 2024: Al-Khalidi stands a hearing before the Administrative Court in Sofia regarding his detention. The decision is rendered very quickly the day after, and his release is ordered.
January 9, 2024: The Administrative Court in Sofia overturns the decision to reject al-Khalidi’s asylum claim by the State Agency for Refugees.
December 12, 2023: His case on his request for asylum is heard again before the Administrative Court in Sofia. The Court decides to send his case back to the State Agency for Refugees for reconsideration.
September 27, 2023: The Administrative Supreme Court renders its judgment, and decides to annul any lower decision regarding al-Khalidi’s asylum claim and send it back to the lower courts to be retried due to procedural vices and errors.
September 20, 2023: MENA Rights Group submits al-Khalidi's case to UN Special Procedures mandate holders.
September 19, 2023: Al-Khalidi is heard before the Administrative Supreme Court.
May 11, 2023: MENA Rights Group submits al-Khalidi's case to the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture.
March 13, 2023: Al-Khalidi files an appeal to the Administrative Supreme Court against the rejection of his asylum claim.
February 20, 2023: The Administrative Court in Sofia rejects al-Khalidi’s appeal.
June 9, 2022: Al-Khalidi files an appeal against the rejection of his asylum claim to the Administrative Court in Sofia.
May 27, 2022: The Bulgarian State Agency for Refugees rejects al-Khalidi’s asylum claim.
