We, the undersigned organisations, welcome the news of the release of Egyptian-Turkish poet Abdul Rahman Al-Qaradawi, following his pardon by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
While this is a positive development and an encouraging step, we urge the UAE leadership, and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to extend this step to all Emirati prisoners of conscience, including those who remain imprisoned in connection with both the UAE94 and the UAE84 cases.
We call on the UAE authorities to build on this encouraging step and to release those who remain imprisoned and to bring this dark chapter to a close once and for all.
