Counter-terrorism practices incompatible with human rights in the MENA region

This briefing paper highlights the main counter-terrorism-related human rights issues identified by MENA Rights Group in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in recent years. It provides an overview of the abuse of counter-terrorism laws and measures to target peaceful dissidents, activists and human rights defenders at the domestic level, including in countries in the Gulf, the Mashreq, and North Africa, as well as at the regional level.

The detrimental impact of administrative counter-terrorism measures on human rights in the MENA

This briefing paper analyses how MENA states impose counter-terrorism related administrative measures, including their legal framework and the entities responsible for imposing them, and examines the impact of these measures on human rights in MENA countries through case studies of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Algeria, Israel/Palestine, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
