On February 7, 2019, Omair Gharaibeh and two friends entered Syria from Jordan to visit Damascus. As a professional photographer, Gharaibeh brought his camera with him and, during the trip, captured panoramas of the city of Damascus.

Osman Haj AbdelWahab, a farmer in the Aleppo governorate and father of 10 children, was abducted at a checkpoint in Seyfat, north of Aleppo, on January 28, 2016 by members of the Military Police, the State Security Service and the Air Force Intelligence Directorate. He was taken to the Political Security branch in Aleppo, where he was detained for four months. He was then handed over to the Political Security branch in Damascus and subsequently transferred to the “Black Wing” of Sednaya prison.

After having fled his home village of A'zaz, Mazin Hammoush was residing with his family in Al Jamelaiah neighbourhood of Aleppo. On June 9, 2013, local policemen arrested him before taking him to the police station of Al Jamelaiah. He was suspected of not holding a valid rental agreement. His family was later informed that one of Hammoush’s relatives reported him to the police, accusing him of being the deputy leader of an armed group affiliated with the opposition.

Issa Khatib, a shoemaker and father of five children, was in a taxi with his sister-in-law on December 13, 2016 when he was abducted by members of the State Security Forces at a checkpoint located near the Shihan roundabout in Aleppo. He was then transferred to an unknown location.

Khalid Al Ibrahim, a student in educational science at the University of Idlib, was arrested at a checkpoint controlled by members of the Military Intelligence Division while trying to enquire about his brother, who had been arrested at the checkpoint the week before by members of the Popular Committees.

Mohammad Al Sayed, an employee in a construction company in Latakia and father of two children, was abducted at a checkpoint in Slanfah, in the Latakia governorate, on September 22, 2012 by members of the military security services and the armed forces.
Al Sayed’s family was unofficially informed that, following his arrest, he was brought directly to the Latakia branch of the military security services. However, when his relatives went to the branch one week after the arrest to enquire about his fate and whereabouts, the authorities denied his presence on their premises.

The 11 men were arrested between 2011 and 2015 by branches of the military and security services in Syria, and have been detained in Hama Central Prison since.
On the basis of confessions extracted under torture, the 11 prisoners were accused of “terrorism-related offenses resulting in death”, which is punishable by death. They were then sentenced to death by Military Field Courts in Damascus between 2016 and 2017 following two-minute proceedings, which violated their right to a fair trial.

Badr Al Din Habib, a father of six, was arrested at a checkpoint in the Ramouse neighbourhood of Aleppo on October 9, 2014. He was in a taxi on his way to the Hamdaniya neighbourhood when he was stopped at the checkpoint under the control of the military security services. The officers asked him to get out of the car and arrested him without showing a warrant. The arrest was witnessed by the taxi driver.

Abdulhamid Kabbani, a supermarket owner and father of six, was abducted at the “Garage Al Hajz” crossing point in the Bustan al-Qasr neighbourhood of Aleppo on March 20, 2012. Kabbani had gone to check on his old house in the Salaheddine neighbourhood of Aleppo and to collect some of his belongings. While he was driving his car to return to his new house, he was stopped by the military security services, who controlled the “Garage Al Hajz” crossing at the time, connecting the area of Aleppo under the control of the Syrian authorities and the area under the control of the Free Syrian Army.
