Mohamed Al Bajadi is a Saudi human rights defender and co-founder of ACPRA*. On March 21, 2011, Al Bajadi was arrested in Buraydah by members of the Ministry of Interior's Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP). The day before, he attended a protest in front of the Ministry of Interior in Riyadh.

Al Bajadi’s trial began in August 2011. His trial was held in secret as neither the charges nor the sentence were made public. Furthermore, his lawyers were denied access to him and informed that their right to represent him had not been recognised by the court.

On April 28, 2013, Omar Al Sai’id was summoned for an interrogation by the Ministry of Interior's Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (BIP) before being taken into custody for questioning. His legal representative was prevented from attending the interrogation. He was the youngest of ACPRA’s* members to be detained.

Saleh Al Ashwan is a Saudi human rights defenders, who specifically worked on the detention of women in his country. He is also a member of ACPRA*.

On July 7, 2012, Al Ashwan was arrested in Riyadh as he left a mosque after attending dawn prayer. He then disappeared and remained missing for two months, until his family and lawyer learnt that he was being held at Al Ha’ir prison in Riyadh. He has been subjected to torture and ill-treatment in detention. He was held without charge or trial from 2012 to 2016.

Abdulkareem Al Khoder is a Saudi human rights defender and co-founder of ACPRA*. He is a former professor of comparative jurisprudence in the Faculty of Islamic Jurisprudence at Al Qassim University.

In January 2013, Al Khoder was tried before the Criminal Court in Buraydah. He was charged with a number of offences, including “disobeying the ruler”; “inciting disorder by calling for demonstrations”; “harming the image of the State by disseminating false information to foreign groups”, and “taking part in founding an unlicensed organization”.

ACPRA co-founder Sulaiman Al Rashoudi arbitrarily detained since 2012

Due to his activism, Al Rashoudi was arrested several times between 1993 and 2007. On February 3. 2007, he was one of 16 men detained in the cities of Jeddah and Medina for circulating a petition calling for political reform and for discussing a proposal to establish an independent human rights organisation in Saudi Arabia. He was released on bail on June 23, 2011. While in prison, he co-founded ACPRA* and continued his advocacy work for reforms and greater respect for human rights in Saudi Arabia.

Abdulrahman Hamid Al Hamid is a Saudi human rights defender and co-founder of ACPRA*. On April 12, 2014, Mr Al Hamid signed a statement along with other activists calling for the Minister of Interior to be put on trial “for his policy of suppressing public freedoms.” As a result, he was arrested on April 17, 2014. He was initially detained incommunicado for a month and was detained in pre-trial detention for almost a year.

Human rights defender and anti-corruption activist Issa Al Nukheifi has been subjected to reprisals repeatedly by the Saudi authorities for his human rights activism and cooperation with international civil society and the United Nations. In late 2016, Al Nukheifi had been consulted during the preparation for the Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty’s visit to Saudi Arabia in January 2017, and he had agreed to meet and further assist the team on the ground.
