Egyptian radiologist released 18 days after being abducted from his workplace

On January 21, 2021, Adel Al Maqsood was arrested at his workplace in the Fayoum Radiology Centre by officers of the National Security Agency. His fate and whereabouts remained unknown until his release on February 8, 2021.

On January 21, 2021, Abdul Al Maqsood was at work in the Fayoum Radiology Centre when officers of the National Security Agency stormed in and arrested him. Later that same day, the security members raided his house, severely damaging the furniture, while refusing to provide his family with any information as to where he was taken.

A few days after his arrest, his lawyer was informally told that Al Maqsood was detained at the State Security branch of Badr Fayoum, but the authorities denied holding him there. On January 25, his family submitted a complaint by telegraph to the General Attorney of Fayoum, to no avail.

On January 27, MENA Rights Group requested the urgent intervention of the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances, calling on them to urge the Egyptian authorities to take action to locate Al Maqsood and place him under the protection of the law.

On February 8, Al Maqsood was released after being presented before the Public Prosecution.
