Ebrahim Metwally is the co-founder and coordinator of the Association of the Families of the Disappeared, which provides the relatives of victims of enforced disappearance in Egypt with legal counselling, including through the submission of cases to the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID). Metwally is the father of Amr Ibrahim Abdel Metwally Hegazy, who remains missing since his arrest on August 7, 2013, and whose case was submitted by his father to the WGEID.

In the morning of March 5, 2019, Ahmed Alakad was visiting a seriously ill friend at his apartment in Nasr City, Cairo, when, at around 10:30 a.m., a group of NSA officers wearing civilian clothes as well as police officers wearing uniforms raided the apartment without showing a warrant. An hour later, another group of NSA officers entered the apartment carrying weapons and video recording equipment. At around 2:30 p.m., Alakad and four other persons present in the apartment were handcuffed, blindfolded and escorted by the officers into police vehicles.

On May 4, 2018, at around 1 a.m., joint forces of the National Security Forces, Special Forces and Central Security Forces broke into and raided AbdelAziz’s house in Giza. The officers arrested him and brought him to an unknown location. His fate and whereabouts remain unknown to date.

AbdelAziz’s arrest took place amid a wave of arrests occurring in early May 2018.

On October 31, 2018, at around 11 p.m., state security forces broke into and raided Aisha Al Shater’s house in Cairo. They arrested her without a warrant and took her to an unknown location. At the same time, the officers arrested her husband, Mohamed Abu Horarira Mohamed Abdul Rahman. For 21 days, Al Shater’s fate and whereabouts remained unknown.

On November 1, 2018, at around 1 a.m., state security forces broke into Abdel Moneim’s house in Cairo and arrested her without a warrant, taking her to an unknown location. For 21 days, her fate and whereabouts remained unknown. She reappeared on November 21, 2018, at the office of the State Security prosecutor in Cairo, who accused her of "joining an illegal group" and "inciting harm to the national economy", and ordered her pre-trial detention.

On October 31, 2018, at around 11 p.m., state security forces broke into, and raided, Abdul Rahman’s house in Cairo. They arrested him without a warrant and took him to an unknown location.

On November 1, 2018, at around 2 a.m., state security forces broke into and raided Hathout’s house in Cairo. The officers arrested her and took her to an unknown location. Hathout’s arrest took place amidst a wave of arrests occurring in late October 2018.
