Jordanian teacher jailed for expressing his support for Palestine
Timeline
December 18, 2024: MENA Rights Group submits a general allegation to UN Special Procedures regarding the crackdown on pro-Palestine activists in Jordan, which includes Nemrawi’s case.
October 13, 2024: Nemrawi is presented before the public prosecutor in Amman and charged under the Cybercrime Law for posts criticising the poor state of Jordanian prisons and the ill-treatment of prisoners. He is sentenced to three months in prison and is detained in Marka prison.
October 10, 2024: Nemrawi is arrested once again for his peaceful social media posts.
August 26, 2024: Nemrawi is released from prison.
May 5, 2024: Nemrawi tells his sister during a visit that he has been severely beaten by members of the GID and the Preventive security branch of the PSD.
Early April 2024: Nemrawi is deprived of prison visits.
November 2024: Nemrawi is sentenced to one year in prison for “unlawful gathering”, “spreading false news targeting the national security and community peace”, and “insulting a symbol of the state”.
November 7, 2023: Nemrawi is arrested in the street by members of the GID and the Preventive security branch of the PSD, and is dragged and beaten.
November 7, 2023: Security forces raid Nemrawi’s house without a search warrant, severely damaging it.
